In this post, I’ll be outlining the skincare routine and product tips that everyone should know.
- Basic morning skincare routine product order & tips
- Basic evening skincare routine & tips
- Essential products to only use on a weekly basis (1-3 times per week)
You need to know that there are no stupid questions when it comes to bettering your skin. It took me 23 years to figure out that less is more.
Let’s jump into how you can start improving your skin routine right now!
Best Morning Routine Application Order
The first step in understanding your skin is paying attention to what works for you.
The second is maintaining good hygiene. What I mean by this is washing your hands before washing your face. I know it seems simple, but I promise this one tip with help clear your skin more than you know.
To start, I’m going to outline my morning skincare routine and briefly explain the how and why.
- Gentle hydrating cleanser
- Allow your skin to air dry or pat with a clean towel
- Towels carry a lot of bacteria that you will be putting right back into your clean skin
- They also take away the moisture your face is trying to retain
- Allow your skin to air dry or pat with a clean towel
- Essence hydrating toner
- This is essential for the glass look…you will thank me later
- Vitamin C serum
- After applying, allow time for it to completely dry before adding your next product (30 sec. – 1 min)
- For brightening and evening skin complexion
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Purely for hydrating your skin and works best on a damp face
- I suggest misting your face before applying or just spraying some water with your fingers
- Niacinamide
- Helps brighten, combat blemishes, & get rid of acne scars; works best when paired with Vitamin C and will boost the effects
- Eye cream
- Focus a small amount on the bone surrounding your eye, you do not need to apply directly under the eye as it moves up throughout the day
- Applying too close to the eye can also cause irritation and cause your makeup to crease more
- Moisturizer
- Just make it a hydrating one, please
- Sunscreen
- I cannot stress enough how important this step is. Every person you see with perfect skin applies sunscreen every frickin morning.
The basic rule of thumb I try to follow when it comes to layers is to start with the lightest product and end with the thickest. A Korean skincare technique that changed the game for me.
Obviously, there are a lot of different products/brands out there, but I recommend investing in these basics for your everyday morning skincare.
Best Evening Routine: Product Layering & Tips
Don’t worry; still going to keep it basic. The techniques only differ slightly from the morning.
The majority rule still applies to the how and why to use each product. I will only be including tips on the ones that differ.
A basic outline of the evening skincare routine:
- Makeup removal
- I highly recommend investing in a makeup removal balm but if not, I use coconut oil and apply it directly to dry skin to remove makeup
- After I rinse it off, I follow by washing my hands before cleansing my face
- Gentle hydrating cleanser
- Always double-cleanse at night to ensure you have removed all the makeup from the day
- This is essential…..just do it
- Essence hydrating toner
- Hyaluronic acid
- Eye cream
- Spot treatment (if desired)
- Retinol serum
- Helps combat blemishes and fine lines…aka, it helps restore youthfulness to your skin
- Shouldn’t be mixed with Vitamin C as they are. both are too strong: Retinol=PM & Vitamin C=AM
- Moisturizer
Did you know that the face, neck, and hands are the first to show signs of aging? So it is absolutely crucial to wash and apply all of the above (morning & night) to your face AND neck.
I mean, our overall goal is to stay looking as young as we can for as long as we can.

Bonus point: Do facial exercises or use a Gua Sha tool before bed to help naturally lift your face and help improve symmetry. You can purchase one off Amazon for less than $10 USD.
I like to add face oil before I moisturize and perform a series of sculpting techniques. This helps promote better blood flow to your face before laying flat against it for the next eight hours.
Highly recommend it if you struggle with symmetry and/or want natural Botox.
Weekly Skincare Essentials
Believe it or not, over-loading your face with products will damage your skin barrier more, resulting in any healthy progress.
This part can get a little confusing, so to make it simple and easy to read, I’ve listed both products and added the when, how, and why.
- Glycolic acid (AHAs)
- Helps even complexion, brightens skin & dark spots, and reduces the appearance of blemishes
- Never mix with Retinol, Vitamin C or Niacinamide
- All these products are way too harsh on your skin and will cause damage to your skin barrier: breakouts & dry skin
- Only use 1-2 times per week (For example, every Tuesday & Thursday morning)
- Apply in AM with a cotton pad all over the face & neck, then allow time to dry. Follow the same morning skincare outline above, but instead of using Vitamin C, use Glycolic acid
- BHAs (Salicylic acid):
- Helps shrink pores and fight/prevent breakouts
- Never mix with Retinol or AHAs
- Again, it will be too harsh on your skin and counteract the progress you are making
- I only recommend using this 2-3 times per week (For example, use Monday, Wednesday, & Friday mornings)
- Apply in AM with a cotton pad all over the face & neck after washing, then proceed with a regular daily skincare routine
Following a set routine and the rules of skincare will literally transform your skin. It might look like a lot now, but once you get in the grove….it will be as if you have been doing it your whole life.

How to get clear, glowing skin? Simple, maintain good hygiene, drink lots of water, and follow a hydrating skincare routine. Choose the products/brands that work best for you and stick to a routine.
